Finding Help On This Site Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Do I have to pay a fee to read the books offered on Big Universe? Reading our books online is free. However, if you’d like to own a print copy or give one as a gift , you’ll need to buy it. To purchase a book, just click its “buy” link. And remember that when you purchase our books, you support the children’s book publishers that create these wonderful books. How does Big Universe choose the publishers whose books appear on the site? Big Universe partners with children’s picture book publishers interested in presenting their books online. Any children’s picture book publisher whose products align with what Big Universe wants to offer is welcome to contact us to discuss a partnership. How often are new books or publishers added to Big Universe? New publishers are added when new partnerships are formed, which can happen at any time. Feel free to write to your favorite publishers and let them know about Big Universe! Do I need permission to put a link to Big Universe on my own website? We would love to have you link to us! All we ask is that you use one of the html codes we provide on our "Link to Us" page. These codes will place our logo on your website with a link leading to our home page. Do I have to be a member to buy books on Big Universe? No. Clicking the “buy” link is all that’s necessary to purchase a book. Is my credit card information passed along to Big Universe when I input it to buy a book? No. When you click the “buy” link next to a book on Big Universe, you are taken to the publisher’s website or to Amazon.com, where you complete the transaction. Inputting your credit card information there makes it available only to the site selling the book, not to Big Universe. Why do I have to give my personal information again to buy a book when I already provided it when I signed up? When you click on a link on Big Universe to buy a book, you are taken to the publisher’s website or Amazon.com to complete the transaction. Since Big Universe won’t give out any of the information you supplied when signing up, you need to give the required information to the selling site yourself to complete the transaction . How much does it cost to become a Big Universe member? Absolutely nothing! What are the benefits of Big Universe membership? For a list of our member benefits, please visit our "Why Sign Up ?" page . How do the Favorites, Wish, and Recently Viewed Items lists work? Using the “Add to Favorites” button, you can make a list of your favorite books, blogs, and more. Similarly, using the “Add to Wish List” button, you can make a list of the books you “wish” to purchase. Your Recently Viewed Items list shows the books, blogs, shops, and other items you most recently viewed at Big Universe. This last list is automatically generated for you. All three lists require being signed in and can be accessed either from the left side bar on most screens or at "My Account." How can I make changes to my account information? Go to "My Account" and click the appropriate link to change your email address, password, interests, and more. Can children sign up as members without a parent’s permission? According to our terms and conditions, children under the age of 13 aren’t allowed to sign up. Unfortunately, because we are a website with free membership, we often don’t know who is actually signing up. We expect children under 13 to use our site only under adult supervision. How can I find out my user name and password if I’ve forgotten them? You can use the Forgot User Name and/or Forgot Password links to retrieve them. Is account sharing allowed? No . Sharing an account is no different than distributing our materials to others without permission. If your friends and colleagues would like to enjoy Big Universe, they’ll need to set up their own accounts. What should I do if I have a problem with my membership? If you have difficulties with your Big Universe membership, or with anything on our website, please use our online feedback form to contact us. Be sure to explain your problem in detail and to let us know how we can get back to you. How can I cancel my membership? We hate to see you go but if you have decided to leave us then kindly use our online feedback form to contact us requesting your account be closed. What operating systems and browsers does Big Universe work on? Our website should work on most operating systems and browser combinations, however we have tested our software using the following combinations (note: later versions of these browsers should also work):
What browser plugins will I need in order to use Big Universe? Our Reader™ and Publisher software require Flash Player version 8 or later , which your browser should already have installed . However, if our software still doesn’t work properly, check if a newer version of Flash Player is available for download at the Adobe™ Web site. Why do the books look unclear on my screen? Our website and Reader ™ are designed for use with screen resolutions of 1024 x 768 or higher. If our books don’t look clear on your screen, double-check that your resolution is set to 1024 x 768 or higher. On Microsoft Windows, do this via Control Panel > Display > Settings . On Mac OS X, use the Displays option in System Preferences. Can I open a book in the Big Universe Reader™ and save or print it? No, books selected to be read onscreen can’t be saved or printed at this time. However, you can purchase their print versions by clicking on their “buy” links . What is Big Universe’s privacy policy? At Big Universe, we take our users’ privacy very seriously. You can read our privacy policy in its entirety here: Privacy Policy. Will new features be added to Big Universe in the future? We’re constantly on the lookout for new features that might benefit our users . Since our best ideas come from our users themselves, if you have any suggestions for new or improved features, we'd love to hear about them. Are all the ads displayed on Big Universe appropriate for kids? We take extra care to ensure that the ads shown on our site are clean, relevant, and non-intrusive. In addition, we strive to follow the "Self-Regulatory Guidelines for Children's Advertising" established by the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus.
