Our company was founded with the mission of delivering engaging education to students, and invaluable resources for teachers, around the world. The development of BigUniverse.com began in January 2007 with its first publisher partner coming on board in April 2007. Today, Big Universe has 29 publisher partners and 5,505
books online. Our science, social studies, language arts, and math books have been read 9,939,438 times by 554,283
members from 171 countries. Members have created

Our name is derived from the fact that we live in a (very) big universe. Our sun, an average sized star, is 1.3 million times larger than Earth in volume. Our galaxy has over 200 billion stars; we are 30 thousand light years from the center of our galaxy. There are over 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe.
Considering the massive size of our universe, all the infighting which we engage in on our small planet, seems like an enormous waste of time and resources. At Big Universe, our mission is to inspire students to learn, so they can become tomorrow’s scientists, doctors, musicians, architects, writers ... and make our world a better place.
 Our mascots are named Little Alien & Joey. Little Alien comes from a place very far from our galaxy. He lands on Earth and
meets Joey, a cute and friendly dog. Little Alien is interested in learning everything about the human race and this planet -- with the help of
Joey, he does just that. In return, Little Alien takes Joey on trips deep into outer space and teaches him many things
about the big universe we are all part of.
