Big Universe Learning, Inc. is an education technology company that provides an online reading, writing, learning, and collaboration platform for K-8.
Our company was founded in June 2005 with the mission of delivering anytime-anywhere engaging education to students around the world. The development of BigUniverse.com began in November 2006 with its first publisher partner coming on board in April 2007.
Today, Big Universe has
24 publisher partners and

books online covering all academic subjects. Our science, social studies, language arts, and math books have been read

countries. Members have created

books online using our
engaging authoring tool for creative writing, book reports, and science projects. Underlying the reading and writing features, is a vibrant community that bolsters the impact of our reading and writing features, fostering a setting where students can motivate and learn from each other while safely sharing their written works and book selections (fun avatars and anonymous usernames safeguard students’ identity, privacy and security). |

Our name is derived from the fact that we live in a (very) big universe. If we could see the entire universe in a picture, Earth would not
even show up as a tiny dot (see the images below). More astounding, our whole galaxy, the Milky Way, would be impossible to locate with the
naked eye even though it is about 300,000 light-years around and about 1,000 light-years thick (one light-year equals 9,500,000,000,000 kilometers).
While this is a mind-boggling concept in itself, more stupefying is the simple fact that our universe consists of millions of galaxies that are millions
of light-years apart from each other!
Considering the massive sizes of and extreme distances between the objects in outer space, all the infighting in which we engage on this
small planet we call Earth seems like such a colossal waste of time and resources. Thus, at Big Universe, our desire is to use children's books
online as a way to connect the next generation - our children - and help them look past the differences between our various cultures and instead focus
on our similarities, so we can come together to explore our big universe. 
 Our mascots are named Little Alien & Joey. Little Alien comes from a place very far from our galaxy. He lands on Earth and
meets Joey, a cute and friendly dog. Little Alien is interested in learning everything about the human race and this planet -- with the help of
Joey, he does just that. In return, Little Alien takes Joey on trips deep into outer space and teaches him many things
about the big universe we are all part of.
