My father-in-law taught computer science for many years. He had one student, a foreign prince, who’d go to Vegas on weekends and drop tens of thousands of dollars. My FIL got one paper from this guy and recognized it as an article that had recently appeared in a professional journal. He confronted the student, who said, “I’m disappointed. I hire a guy to write a paper for me, and he does this kind of work. You just can’t get good service anymore.”
I meet writers like this sometimes. I’m like this sometimes. We want the reward, but we don’t want to do the work. So we take shortcuts. And then when the shortcuts fail, we blame it all on “them”, and not where it belongs.
Sometimes the slowest way to get to your destination is by taking shortcuts.
